WHY???????????

Why is this church using this kind of shock value to get people to come to church? Why would this be considered a welcome message? Why would the Pastor approve of this?? I'm not one to judge but you have to draw the line somewhere...SMH

Aaliyah ---Gone But Not Forgotten 1/16/ 1979 – 8/25/2001

Aaliyah was one of those artists that I really could relate to and I love her music to this day. I still have her albums in heavy rotation on my Ipod and I remember the day I heard the news of her death. It was so surreal and unexpected for such a beautiful, young successful woman's life to be cut short right in her prime. Aaliyah was not only a beautiful girl but a beautiful spirit and she may be gone but not forgotten.

Deciding vote in 'C-Murder' trial cast by Metairie woman who wasn't convinced

Monday August 24, 2009, 9:18 PM

A Metairie woman who served on the jury that convicted Corey "C-Murder" Miller of murder said she changed her vote to guilty to end deliberations in defense of a young juror who felt the rapper was innocent but who emotionally and physically crumbled under the "brutal" pressure heaved by other jurors.

While she still thinks that prosecutors did not prove their case "beyond a reasonable doubt," Mary Jacob said she twice cast the deciding vote to deliver the 10-2 verdict, the minimum required by state law for a second-degree murder conviction.
Miller, 38, is serving a mandatory life sentence for killing 16-year-old Steve Thomas in a Harvey nightclub on Jan. 12, 2002.
"This thing had to come to an end for this girl's health, her sanity," said Jacob, executive director of a group that advocates for families and the disabled, of the 20-year-old Xavier University student who voted for Miller's innocence. "I believe what happened to Steve Thomas on the floor of the Platinum Club happened to her verbally.
"I was more worried about this little girl than I was about Corey Miller," Jacob said. "Corey Miller will survive whatever happens to him."

On Aug. 11, the second day of deliberation, the jury was firmly split 9-3 in favor of conviction.
"They literally made this 20-year-old girl so violently ill," Jacob said. "She was shaking so bad. She ran into the bathroom. She was throwing her guts up. She couldn't function anymore. That's when I decided, the judge don't want to listen to me, doesn't want to listen to us? I told them, 'You want him to be guilty? He's guilty, now let's get the hell out of here.'''
Miller's family did not return calls for comment. Miller's former attorney Ron Rakosky declined to comment Monday. Citing the appeal, the Jefferson Parish district attorney's office declined to comment.
Miller, who had pleaded no contest to two counts of attempted second-degree murder in Baton Rouge at Club Raggs in August 2001, is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday in the 19th Judicial District in that case.

Coroner rules Jackson’s death a homicide

msnbc.com news services
updated 6:49 p.m. CT, Mon., Aug 24, 2009

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles County coroner has ruled Michael Jackson’s death a homicide, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press, a finding that makes it more likely criminal charges will be filed against the doctor who was with the pop star when he died on June 25.
A designation of homicide means that Jackson died at the hands of another, but does not necessarily mean a crime was committed.
Forensic tests found the powerful anesthetic propofol acted together with at least two sedatives to cause Jackson’s death June 25 in his rented Los Angeles mansion, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the findings have not been publicly released.

Dr. Conrad Murray, a Las Vegas cardiologist who became Jackson’s personal physician weeks before his death, is the target of a manslaughter investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. Dateline NBC's Josh Mankiewicz confirmed that Murray is the target of a manslaughter probe.
A search warrant affidavit unsealed Monday in Houston includes a detailed account of what Murray told investigators.
According to the document, Murray said he’d been treating Jackson for insomnia for about six weeks with 50 milligrams of propofol every night via an intravenous drip. But he said he feared Jackson was forming an addiction to the anesthetic, which is normally used in hospitals only, and was attempting to wean his patient by lowering the dose to 25 milligrams and adding the sedatives lorazepam and midazolam.
Singer called propofol his ‘milk’That combination succeeded in helping Jackson sleep two days prior to his death, so the next day, Murray told detectives he cut off the propofol — and Jackson fell asleep with just the two sedatives.
Then around 1:30 a.m. on June 25, starting with a 10-milligram tab of Valium, Murray said he tried a series of drugs instead of propofol to make Jackson sleep. The injections included two milligrams of lorazepam around 2 a.m., two milligrams of midazolam around 3 a.m., and repeats of each at 5 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. respectively. But they didn’t work.

Murray told detectives that around 10:40 a.m. he gave in to Jackson’s “repeated demands/requests” for propofol, which the singer referred to as his “milk.” He administered 25 milligrams of the white-colored liquid, — a relatively small dose — and finally, Jackson fell asleep.
Murray remained with the sedated Jackson for about 10 minutes, then left for the bathroom. No more than two minutes later, he returned — and found Jackson had stopped breathing.
“There’s no surprise there” that death could result from such a combination, said Dr. David Zvara, anesthesia chairman at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
“All those drugs act in synergy with each other,” Zvara said. Adding propofol on top of all the other sedatives “tipped the balance.”
Singer had bed soresBesides the propofol and two sedatives, the coroner’s toxicology report found other substances in Jackson’s system but they were not believed to have been a factor in the singer’s death, the official told the AP.
When he died, Jackson was skinny but not overly emaciated, and his body had bed sores, the official said. The singer is believed to have developed bed sores in the months following his 2005 acquittal of child molestation charges, when he went into seclusion and spent long stretches in bed.

Icon--------Miles Davis

Miles Davis was one of the greatest visionaries and most important figures in jazz history. He played the trumpet in an introspective and melodic style. To examine his career is to examine the history of jazz from the mid-'40s to the early '90s. He was part of almost every important innovation and stylistic development of jazz music during that period.

Born into a well-to-do family in East St. Louis, he became a local legend and toured with Billy Eckstine's band while he was in high school. He then moved to New York to attend the Julliard School of Music. However, his real intentions were to hook up with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and quickly climbed up the ranks learning from them for almost 3 years.

He then invented a more subtle, yet challenging style known as "cool jazz." His first attempt at leading a group came in 1949; the first of many occurrences in which he would take jazz in a new direction. Miles had a gift for hearing the music in his head, and putting together a band of incredible musicians. Along with arranger Gil Evans, he created his first group with nine members that used non-traditional jazz instruments such as French horn and Tuba. This style influenced a large group of musicians who played primarily on the west coast and further explored this style.

Miles became a hot commodity after a triumphant performance of Thelonious Monk's classic ‘Round Midnight’ at the 1955 Newport Jazz Festival. He put together another group featuring: John Coltrane, Red Garland, "Philly Joe" Jones, and Paul Chambers. He made 2 classics with the Sextet during this time; Milestones and Kind of Blue. In 1968, Miles began experimenting with electric instruments. And again, he took jazz in another direction with the record Bitches Brew, in which he fused Rock Music with jazz and went heavily into electric music which took jazz to a whole new level of popularity. He won a series of Grammy Awards and had a professional career lasting 50 years. The great Miles Davis died in 1991, but his music lives on.

Here is one of Miles Davis' last performances, Micheal Jackson's 'Human Nature'

Words Of Wisdom

The real value of a person is on the inside and not on the outside. God has shown us over and over again that disease which causes someone to be physically
unattractive, or poverty and social standing, have nothing to do with
whether a person has value or not. The most stunningly gorgeous looking
person might be inwardly ravaged by sin. Now is the time to deal with our
attitudes towards ourselves and towards others. Ask God to help you see
yourself as an expensive bottle of perfume. Ask Him to help you to see
others as He does.

Words Of Wisdom

You have to be definite with the infinite”. Until a man selects a definite purpose in life he dissipates his energies and spreads his thoughts over so many subjects and in so many different directions that they lead not to answered prayer but to indecision and weakness! It is imperative that you MAKE UP YOUR MIND.

Thelonious Monk
(October 10, 1917 – February 17, 1982)

The most important jazz musicians are the ones who are successful in creating their own original world of music with its own rules, logic, and surprises. Thelonious Monk, often regarded as a founder of bebop, was a genius American jazz pianist and composer who was often misunderstood. He was criticized by observers that failed to listen to his music on its own terms.

He suffered through a decade of neglect before he was suddenly celebrated as a genius, though his music had not changed one bit. His compositions were so advanced that the bebop musicians assumed he was crazy. He left a lot of space in his rhythmic solos and had an unusual technique so many people thought that he was an inferior pianist. After a difficult period between 1945-554, he then became widely considered as one of the most important musicians in jazz. He is one of only five jazz musicians to be featured on the cover of Time Magazine. Monk had a unique style and made numerous contributions to the standard jazz repertoire, including "Epistrophy," "'Round Midnight," "Blue Monk," "Straight, No Chaser" and "Well, You Needn't."
